Recent online reports alleging that Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has been banned for life by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and stripped of her medals and prize money due to gender eligibility issues are unfounded and false. The WBO has officially denied these claims, stating they have neither tested nor banned Khelif, and any reports suggesting otherwise are “obviously fake and ill-intentioned.”
As an amateur boxer, Khelif falls outside the WBO’s jurisdiction, which governs professional boxing. The WBO lacks the authority to impose sanctions or revoke titles from amateur athletes. Furthermore, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognizes Khelif as a female athlete and has dismissed these online allegations as baseless.
Khelif’s coach, Mohamed Chaoua, has also refuted these rumors, confirming that the social media claims regarding Khelif’s suspension and loss of titles are false.
It’s important to critically evaluate information encountered online and rely on credible sources to avoid the spread of misinformation.
