During a recent live television appearance, Vice President JD Vance accused “rogue” federal judges of impeding President Donald Trump’s policies and issued a stern and unyielding warning to them.
A national discussion concerning the delicate balance of power between the executive and judicial branches of government has been triggered by his comments.
Vance, a fervent supporter of Trump, was especially critical of judges who have obstructed important initiatives that the administration is pursuing, such as regulatory reforms, immigration policies, and federal funding.
Vance’s critique was scathing, especially when it came to the judiciary’s reaction to Trump’s attempt to limit birthright citizenship, which was a key component of his immigration reform platform.
According to federal judges, changing birthright citizenship would necessitate a constitutional amendment as opposed to executive action.
Vance called these decisions “absurd” and charged that the court was participating in “judicial activism,” which undermines democracy by allowing personal political opinions to sway decisions.
Vance emphasized that judges should not function as a “super-legislature” and thwart laws that conflict with their personal convictions, saying, “This is not how our system is supposed to work.”
